The sub-4 metre SUV segment has been waging a war in the Indian passenger vehicle market. Two of the latest entrants in this space are Skoda Kylaq and Kia Syros. Besides being direct rivals in the same segment, both vehicles compete with each other when it comes to comfort and space inside the cabin, especially for the back seat occupants.

While Syros is definitely the more feature-loaded model between the two, we are looking at the amount of space offered by these two SUVs. Let us start by comparing the dimensions of the Syros and Kylaq which will give us an idea.

Skoda Kylaq vs Kia Syros: Which is the bigger one?

Dimensions Skoda Kylaq Kia Syros
Length (mm) 3995 3995
Width (mm) 1783 1800
Height (mm) 1619 1625
Wheelbase (mm) 2566 2550
Ground Clearance (mm) 189 189
Fuel tank capacity (litres) 45 45
Boot space (litres) 446 390~465

On paper, both SUVs are dimensionally very close to each other. However, due to the tall and boxy design of Syros, it is taller and wider than the Kylaq. The sense of space inside the cabin, especially in the rear seat is more in the Korean than the Czech. Length and ground clearance are identical in both SUVs but Kylaq offers the best-in-class wheelbase. So theoretically, it should offer the best legroom and kneeroom.

However, the Syros has a special trick up its sleeve. The rear seat in the Syros can be slid and reclined as per the occupants wish. This flexibility and overall comfort gives Syros an edge over the Kylaq. When it comes to boot space, Kylaq offered the largest boot at 446 litres until the Syros broke cover a few weeks later. The Syros offers a flexible boot space between 390~465 litres based on the rear seat position.

Skoda hasn’t revealed the exact figures for headroom, legroom and kneeroom, however, Kia claims the best-in-segment figures for the above dimensions. Therefore, in most scenarios the Kia Syros turns out to be the more practical option considering space and comfort. That said, the comfort and space of Syros is expected to come at a premium price which is expected to be higher than Kylaq.
